Using ecology to restore land and water
Blue flag iris is a perennial with large, showy flowers that vary in color from light blue to violet. Its thick, fleshy rhizomes are great for anchoring soil and stabilizing shorelines. The plant forms clumps with sword-like leaves. The early summer blooms attract butterflies and hummingbirds. Blue flag iris is found in swamps, meadows, shores, marshes, stream banks, and edges of ponds.
