Using ecology to restore land and water
Blue grama is a short, warm-season grass with gray-green thin foliage. The grass looks delicate but is tough and drought resistant with a dense, shallow fibrous root system. The comb-like spikelets are attached at right angles to the stems, resembling eyelashes. The spikelets are initially a silvery color, then mature to reddish-purple. Found in dry prairies, sand-hills, and along railroad tracks. Blue grama is larval host plant and nectar source for skipper butterflies.
