Prairie blazing star is the tallest and least drought tolerant of the blazing stars. The small purple flowers are densely arranged on a tall spike. It grows well in moist soils and will tolerate heavy soils. Its late summer blooms are popular with pollinators. Prairie blazing star grows in clumps and is a great perennial plant for home landscaping. The flower spikes may require staking to prevent them from flopping over.
