Stiff Goldenrod

Solidago rigida

Stiff goldenrod is a tall, erect perennial that is adaptable to many different soil textures. It has deep fibrous roots that stabilize soil. The large yellow flower clusters are flat-topped and provide great pollinator landing spots. The nectar and pollen provide important late season food source for many insects, including migrating monarch butterflies. Stiff goldenrod forms clumps and does not tend to spread as aggressively as other goldenrod species. It spreads by seed and can be kept under control if seed heads are removed in October.
