Tussock sedge forms colonies under favorable conditions. The root system consists of fibrous roots and short rhizomes. It is adapted to seasonal flooding and is found in marshes, bogs, and meadows. Tussock sedge provides good cover for wildlife because of its dense stands and tall stature.
