RESTORATION TYPE:Native Plant Shoreline RestorationLOCATION:Hastings, MNDURATION:June 2014WORK DESCRIPTION:Converting turfed over pond shoreline into a diverse native plant restorationFebruary 10, 2025 2014 | Hastings Lakeshore Restoration In June of 2014, homeowners reached out to us seeking to enhance the ecological function of their small residential pond through lakeshore restoration in Hastings, MN. They had turfed all the way to the edge of the pond, but the area was unusable. The area’s high water table made the ground incredibly inundated and difficult to traverse. Luckily, many of our native plant species thrive in such conditions. We collaborated with the homeowners to design a natural landscaping project that not only met their aesthetic preferences but also improved their pond’s environmental impact. After removing the turf grass, our installation team applied mulch and planted over 1,000 plants, encompassing 50 different native species. From there, our maintenance team took charge. They prevented turf grass intrusion from the lawn and the spread of invasive species from neighboring properties. Even a decade after its initial installation, both our team and the homeowners are delighted with the ongoing progress of this Hastings, MN lakeshore restoration. Witnessing the site mature and adapt over time has been truly remarkable. Are you interested in making a positive impact with the help of native plants? Then, reach out to us today! We eagerly anticipate beginning a partnership with you as well. Reader Interactions « 2015 | Golden Valley Native Prairie
