RESTORATION TYPE:Native Plant Buffer Along Pond ShorelineLOCATION:Chanhassen, MNDURATION:June 2022WORK DESCRIPTION:Removal of unsightly cattail and turf and installation of a wide variety of MN native plantsJanuary 28, 2025 2022 | Chanhassen Native Plant Buffer In 2022, we were contacted by homeowners interested in transforming their unsightly cattail-infested pond into a vibrant native plant buffer in Chanhassen, MN. Despite their attempts to restore the area independently, they faced persistent challenges in eliminating the cattails and turf grass. They had a great deal of passion for this project, but needed our help to get it done. We began with targeted herbicide applications. We meticulously hand-wicked the cattails and sprayed the turf grass with water-safe glyphosate. After multiple applications to ensure lasting results, our install team removed the dead cattail stalks and applied mulch around the pond to prepare the site for planting. Carefully selecting hardy native species tailored to the site’s requirements, we then installed a diverse array of native plants. Following the completion of the initial project, our dedicated maintenance team continues to monitor and upkeep the site, suppressing the invasive seed bank and preventing turf encroachment on the restoration. In just two years, what was once a barren and unsightly pond has blossomed into a stunning native plant buffer in Chanhassen, MN. This project is a remarkable testament to the transformative power of Minnesota native plants. Do you have a persistently challenging and unsightly area on your property? We’re here to help!
