Beginning in July 2020, our mission for this project was to convert a heavily eroded hillside into a flourishing native prairie in Minnetonka, MN. Our initial steps involved a thorough assessment of the site’s challenges, along with discussions with the homeowners to align on project goals.

We began by installing biologs, fabric, and silt fence to reduce erosion and prepare the site for planting. Then, we selected and installed a diverse array of native prairie plants, specifically chosen to thrive in the unique conditions of this site. Through continuous maintenance to suppress the area’s invasive seed bank, this once-eroded hillside has blossomed into a vibrant native prairie. This project stands as a testament to the profound impact of ecological restoration, transcending visual appeal to create a haven for local pollinators, enhancing the site’s overall ecological function.

Despite the many challenges we encountered, we take immense pride in witnessing the transformation of this degraded hillside into a beautiful native prairie in Minnetonka, MN. It reaffirms that thoughtful restoration efforts can yield long-term positive effects on both the land and its inhabitants.
